BOSTON - Boston Police are looking into a shooting near Modern Pastry in the North End.
Officers were called to the popular shop on Hanover Street just after 11 p.m. Wednesday for what they said was a "report of shots fired."
Modern Pastry owner Nick Picariello believes it's the result of a feud between an upstairs tenant and someone else.
"He said something like 'I'm going to fix you' words to that effect," Picariello said. "He pulled out a gun and shot him, he ducked under a car and the guy ran away."
A bullet hole could be seen in one of the windows. The bakery was closed at the time.
"Somebody could have gotten hurt, people walking by, or it could have been my family, my mother," Picariello said.
"It's scary," said Natasha Savage, who lives above the shop. She took her trash out about 20 minutes before the window was shot out. "It was still really, really busy, there's people everywhere right in front of Modern, all over the street. Places don't close around here until 2 a.m. so the streets are busy right until that point, so it's really, really crazy that no one got hurt."
The bullet hit part of the pastry shop that's used for storage and is unoccupied. It had police shutting down Hanover Street for hours as they searched the scene.
"Years ago it was fights with punches that's it, and then everybody went on their way and shook hands," Picariello said. "Today it's guns and knives."
Police told WBZ-TV no one was hurt and there have been no arrests.
"It's a bit scary, being a father in the area," said Sean Munnis, who lives in the North End. "Things like this typically don't really happen in the North End, so it's a bit rare but we do live in a city."
The bakery was open for business as usual Thursday.
